Bebe's interpretation
Our hope is based on our confidence in God's promise, and God's love is what assures our hope. Our God is eternal, all-powerful, and faithful. He is not fickle or changeable, so we can always count on Him. Because God fulfills His promises, we’re not ashamed to have faith and hope in Him, and we’re assured that we’ll never be disappointed.
It is easy to think that God's love rises and falls with our good and bad days. However, Paul helps us recognize that God's love has never been dependent on us. He has poured His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit. God's love is already in you! Even when you face suffering and difficulty, you are filled with love through the Holy Spirit.
When we think about our weaknesses and sins, we may have doubts about God's love for us. If I do _____, will He still love me? The fear of losing God's love can lead us to try to earn it or think that we may somehow lose it. However, Paul reminds us in Romans 5 that God's love has been proven and applied, regardless of whether we earn it or deserve it.
The love of God is given, not earned or merited. It's also a love we will never lose. Thanks be to God for His unfailing and everlasting love!
