2 Corinthians 4:9

Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;

  • Persecution
  • Strength
  • Faith
  • Endurance
  • Hope
Bebe's interpretation
Many Christians of the early church suffered persecution, and much of Paul's teaching addressed the abuse and torture they endured. Persecution is still prevalent in our society today. While the methods of torture may differ, the enemies of our Lord Jesus Christ continue to undermine our faith.
As a result of our faith, we may be personally attacked. We may feel discouraged by what is happening in the world. Life may knock us down in every possible way. In this verse, the Apostle Paul reminds us that, regardless of what is thrown at us and what we might have to suffer for the sake of Christ, the Lord never leaves us, and we can always find strength in Him.
Life's trials and troubles are not an end but an encounter with God's extravagant love. It is that love that makes pain bearable and suffering joyful. The Lord, in His loving refuge, gives us the peace that enables us to understand the purposes of life so that we can walk in stillness and joy in spite of pain and noise.
God never promised us that following Jesus would be easy. In fact, the Scriptures are very upfront about the difficulties we may experience. He did promise, however, that we would never be alone. Regardless of how hard the struggle may seem at times, remember that God will never abandon you, nor will He let you fall. He is always with you.
