Matthew 6:11
Matthew 6:11
Give us this day our daily bread.
According to this verse, "bread" refers to one's most basic and essential needs. Here, Jesus emphasizes the importance of praying in dependence upon the Father and asking Him to meet the needs of each day. When we rely on God, we are aware that what we need is directly related to His will and His plans for us. As challenging as it may be to accept, what we really "need" depends upon the purpose God has for us at that particular time. Every need we have is known to God. There is more to the simple request than food and shelter. Instead, it acknowledges our total dependence on God for all our individual needs, no matter what they may be or where we may live. As Christ instructed in this request, we were to develop a dependent faith in the child of God. As we pray to the Lord, our faith is strengthened, and a loving trust in our Heavenly Father is enlarged. Our God answers our prayers. With each passing day, as God is praised as a great Provider who supplies all daily needs, faith in Him and His promises increases. Without faith, it is impossible to please Him. It is essential to believe that He exists and that He rewards those who diligently seek and approach Him.
