1 Thessalonians 5:18
1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
We see commands throughout the Bible to give thanks unto the Lord our God, but in this verse, Paul urges us not to give thanks FOR everything but IN all things. No matter what the circumstances - good, bad, happy, sad, messy, ugly, painful, or joyful - we are to praise and give God thanks. This is God's will for us as we live in Jesus Christ. I'm sure you've had a day when everything went wrong for you, and you just felt like your world was spinning out of control. In moments like those, it is a challenge to get out of bed, let alone be thankful, like today’s Bible verse encourages us to do. But God wouldn’t tell us to do something that we couldn’t do. How? We can start by shifting our focus from our misfortunes to God's goodness, faithfulness, presence, and provision. There is always something to be thankful for, no matter how difficult our circumstances may be. It could be that you didn't go hungry today. Or simply be the fact that you woke up in the morning. A small thank-you can make a big difference. So, no matter where you are in life, choose to start each day by giving thanks.
Psalms 116:12
What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?
1 Chronicles 16:8
