Micah 7:18
Micah 7:18
Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy.
The prophet Micah begins verse 18 with a play on his own name: “Who is a God like you?” Micah's question is one that other nations – Egyptians, Babylonians, Assyrians –also asked as a way of praising their gods. Yet Micah by no means implies that there are other gods. The one and only God is incomparable because of His forgiving character! The Lord our God is a God who pardons iniquity and forgives sins. Through Jesus Christ, all of our sins have been cast out and forever forgiven! He does not retain His anger forever because He delights in showing mercy to His people. Regardless of who we are or what we have done, we have been redeemed from sins as children of God. When we turn from our sins and mistakes and turn to the Lord, we can count on His mercy to forgive us and make us new. Micah proclaimed this truth to a nation that had gone astray. It is helpful to remember that sometimes we are just like stubborn Israel. God brought them back! What He did for them, He will also do for us. Forgiving, compassionate, and delighting in mercy. This is the God whom we serve and worship!
John 8:7
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
Isaiah 43:25
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
Matthew 6:12
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
Luke 6:29
And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.
