Galatians 6:1

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

In the ‘cancel culture’ that we live in today, there is much grace that is missed when correcting and rebuking someone. Don’t misunderstand; correction and rebuking are good things. In fact, according to Paul in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, correcting and rebuking are two of the main uses of Scripture. However, there is most certainly a good way to do it.
According to Paul in Galatians, if it is found that someone is in need of correction, they should be restored in a spirit of meekness and gentleness. Being gentle is certainly a difficult trait to develop. It is easy to either be harsh or overlook sin. Those are the two ends of the spectrum. What is difficult is to be in the middle, to be gentle yet firm. Yet this is what we are called to as believers when restoring brothers and sisters in Christ.
What is your tone when correcting other Christians? Do you call for cancellation? Or do you restore them in a spirit of gentleness and meekness, genuinely wanting to see them succeed in the faith? Let us build one another up in the faith and correct one another the right way, the way Christ would correct us.
