Bebe's interpretation
Nicodemus played a significant role in the development of Christianity. His qualifications included being a respected Pharisee, an accomplished teacher, and a member of the Sanhedrin court. Miracles performed by Jesus are presented in the gospel of John as proof of His divine powers. In recognition of this, Nicodemus interprets Jesus' abilities as proof that God had sent Him. Jesus' teachings, however, still raise questions for him.
In spite of his vast knowledge and learning, Nicodemus could not see God behind the face of the perfect man whom he came to visit that night. He credited Him instead with being a great teacher and an outstanding example to follow. This is so true for many people today who hear the gospel of God's grace but cannot go beyond the good works and moral teachings of Jesus.
In an equal-speaking relationship, Nicodemus approached Jesus as one would approach a learned Rabbi, only to be dumbfounded by the Lord. His discovery was that he would be spiritually born from above simply by believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. Nicodemus will be saved, as will all who trust in Jesus' finished work at Calvary.
