Romans 5:7
Romans 5:7
For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.
In this verse, Paul describes the human perspective of giving one's life to others. To suffer pain and death, intentionally and voluntarily, for the sake of another is no small matter. Some people, perhaps, would be willing to lay down their lives for the sake of some other good and righteous person, though it is very rare. Essentially, Paul is arguing that we would be hesitant to die for someone we deem to be morally deficient. This verse discusses 'man-to-man' love, which can't even compare to the love that God displayed towards his creation. Considering that there is no greater love than to lay down one's life for one's close ones, the love that is demonstrated by God is beyond comprehension. It takes some motivation for a person to give up their life for another, but God's love is so much greater, and this demonstration of the love of God on the Cross continues to be a living, breathing testimony to this very day. It is a supernatural love that God has for you and me. Throughout our lives, God's love has comforted us not only when we were weak, helpless, and hopeless but also when we did not demonstrate any good or righteousness.
Matthew 10:39
He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
Hebrews 10:12
But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God.
Hosea 6:6
For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
Mark 10:45
For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.
