Proverbs 22:24
Proverbs 22:24
Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
There is this popular dictum that goes thus, “Show me your friends, and I will tell you who you are.” Although this saying gives room for hasty generalization, it is mostly true that our associations go a long way in determining our personality. This is because our relationships have an influence on our conduct and character. Habits form our character, and it is a fact that it takes 21 days for a habit to be cultivated for it to become a part of us. This means that three weeks are required for the formation of an attitude: within this time frame, a habit, either good or bad, can rub off on someone by association. We have to be careful of the friends we keep because they can unconsciously rub off on us, knowing that “evil association corrupts good manners.” As humans, we all have momentary bouts of anger; however, it becomes dangerous and destructive when it develops into rage or fury. A furious man is blind and cannot listen to the voice of reasoning; he acts irrationally and speaks unruly. He can become physically and verbally violent, destroying valuable things and relationships in the process. He is a man who lacks control of his spirit and emotions; he is vulnerable and an easy target for the enemy’s attacks. Therefore, rather than choosing angry men as friends, choose godly men as friends and go to the house of God with them. Anger and fury are not characteristics of true children of God.
Colossians 3:14
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
James 1:20
For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
Proverbs 28:25
He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the Lord shall be made fat.
Proverbs 14:17
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
