Psalms 37:8
Psalms 37:8
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
Among the vast array of emotional propensities allotted to humans, there is one that has been a real cause for concern. We call it anger. It also goes by other names and expressions, such as losing a temper, having a short fuse, etc. In all, anger can be a serious issue for humans. The emotion of anger is one that is too easily manipulated against the righteous ways of God. James speaks in his epistle about how our anger can never work with the righteousness of God. (James 1:20). When God uses the emotion of anger, it is to bring His righteousness into perspective and make a judgment in His justice. When we humans become angry, though, only a drop in the ocean does so with a righteous focus. Anger is so dangerous and difficult for us to control, and that’s why it’s best to avoid it as much as possible. Yes, you may point out that the Bible says to be angry but not to let the sun set on your anger (Ephesians 4:26). That is true. However, the question is, “How confident are you in controlling it and not becoming a victim of it if you entertain it in the first place?” Many people have been cheap victims of the aftermath of uncontrolled anger. It would do us good to flee from it altogether, just as our verse today advises.
Psalm 103:8
The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.
Proverbs 16:32
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Proverbs 14:17
He that is soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
Proverbs 27:4
Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
