Hebrews 1:1
Hebrews 1:1
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
In Hebrews, the writer refers to God's communication with mankind as the beginning of the book. When we start to comprehend the full force of the truth that this simple sentence contains, we will be stupefied at the meaning it conveys. The first and second verses point out that God has spoken through prophets in the past and that he is now speaking through Jesus Christ. There was no ambiguity in God's message. By means of the prophets of Israel, He conveyed a single, unified message of hope. Humanity was given a single, integrated, supernaturally inspired message of hope through God's ancient people, Israel, as great world kingdoms rose to power and declined into obscurity. Many times and in many ways, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets in the past. It is certain that once we grasp the enormity of the truth contained in this sentence, we will crave to learn more. Following the endearing words of the prophets and then the words of Jesus Himself in the Scriptures, wouldn't it make sense for us to hunger for and study the Word so that we may show ourselves approved for our own good and for His glory?
Psalms 100:3
Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Psalms 10:1
Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?
Psalms 9:7
But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment.
2 Chronicles 26:5
And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the LORD, God made him to prosper.
