Bebe's interpretation
Many nations of the world, especially third-world countries, are in a state of unrest which has crippled their economic and political stability. Insecurity, terrorism, and politically induced agitations can result in a lack of peace. Every day, citizens live in constant fear and do not know what the future holds. These citizens are victims of the evil machinations and wicked devices of human beings like themselves. People who sponsor, embrace, and partake in evil are said to be wicked. On the outside, it seems all is well with them. They seem to have a life of ease, and we assume they are at peace based on what we see. However, they do not feel at peace inside.
The kind of peace Jesus promised us as believers in John 16:33 cannot be found in the material things of this world. This peace is accompanied by having a sense of purpose in God, even in the midst of chaos. In the package of eternal life, we are assured of rest from life's troubles. But the unbeliever who thrives in the way of unrighteousness and godlessness cannot come into the rest that God has called His children to. There may be temporary external peace in this world, but eternal damnation, torment, and unrest await those who reject the salvation of God through Christ Jesus.
