2 Corinthians 4:17

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

  • Suffering
  • Glory
  • Hope
  • Patience
  • Trials
Bebe's interpretation
No one wants or bargains for a life full of trials, pain, and suffering. Life happens to everyone regardless of their economic status or age. Painful experiences of loss, hardship, poverty, and prolonged illness can make us miserable and give in to despair.
People all over the world go through suffering. Believers are not excluded. In fact, suffering is a part of the Christian walk. We suffer injustice, persecution, hardship, and loss. Nevertheless, Scripture exhorts us not to give in to despair or feel that God has forgotten us. Our suffering as children of God has a sense of purpose, so it is not meaningless. The present affliction we are passing through is momentary. It is a phase of life that is fleeting and temporary. Knowing that God uses our experiences, either good or bad, to work out something great in our lives. When we go through troubles in life, understanding that God is about to achieve something glorious and weighty through that bitter experience should make us worry less. Our suffering is of no value when compared to the glory that is being achieved in us (Romans 8:18).
We should rejoice in what God is doing and not focus on the circumstances around us.
