Ephesians 4:29
Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
We affect others significantly by what we say to them. We cannot control how others react to our words, but we can control our tongues and make sure nothing coming out of our mouths is unholy. In this verse, Paul warns us against abusive language, improper use of anger, and bad attitudes toward others. Instead of letting unwholesome words proceed out of our mouths and do no good to others, we should be forgiving, just as God has forgiven us, and encouraging others every chance we get. God has given us the power to give grace to others through the proper use of our words. We shouldn't abuse the privilege we have been given to speak to others. In the church, if we always build up other people, as Ephesians 4:29 commands, and never put them down, we would join God's construction crew rather than Satan's destruction crew. Let your conversation be pure, wise, and holy. Before you speak, take a moment to consider whether what you are about to say would encourage those who hear it. Let everything you say be good and helpful.
