James 4:7
James 4:7
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
What should we do when we realize we have once again followed the world's path? James' answer is revealed in this verse: submit yourselves to God. Don't be concerned about obtaining what you want, but instead accept all the good He offers you. Rather than focusing on achieving our own desires, we should devote our attention to serving others. The promise of James is clear: If we turn from the ways of this world and resist the devil, he will flee from us. Whenever temptation knocks at the door of our minds, we are simply to say "no!" This means that we must refuse to succumb to sinful temptations and resist the temptations of lustfulness. Resisting the devil's devious schemes and refusing to indulge in fleshly desires are the keys to resisting his wiles. They are meant to coax us into a variety of sinful activities that would dishonor God and discredit our testimony. We will be able to flee from Satan when we resist him. Thanks to God that in the power of the Holy Spirit, we are empowered to present our bodies to God as instruments of righteousness, holiness and acceptance, for we are not under law, but under grace.
1 Peter 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.
1 Corinthians 10:21
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils ye cannot be partakers of the Lord s table, and of the table of devils.
1 Thessalonians 5:22
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
Matthew 4:1
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
