Philippians 4:5

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

  • Gentleness

  • Patience
  • Peace
  • Faith
Bebe's interpretation
Besides encouraging his readers to rejoice in the previous verse, Paul also encouraged them to demonstrate moderation with the hope that Jesus would return at any moment. Christ's return has many direct applications for the Christian's daily life. A Christian should not be regarded as easily irritated or foolish. Instead, he or she should be regarded as a mature and reasonable individual who is capable of handling difficulties and disagreements with sound judgment.
Moderation is a fruit that should be evident to all people, whether they are saved or not. As such, it implies a person who is kind and considerate, tender-hearted and compassionate, merciful and forgiving, good-natured and sweet-tempered. This implies an inner calm that is not adversely affected by the fluctuating emotions of others. This refers to one who is understanding and peaceful, even when they are maligned or misunderstood.
We are not only near to Jesus' work in our lives, but He will also be with us physically at the Rapture, the resurrection of the Church-age saints. This is nearer than we were when we first believed. We are called upon as His children to watch, wait, prepare, redeem the time, and work God's works in our lives in spirit and in truth, with gentleness of heart and with a quiet mind.
