John 8:7
John 8:7
So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
John Chapter 8 contains a well-known story about an adulterous woman. The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees were attempting to trap Jesus by bringing an adulterous woman to Him. Nevertheless, He stressed the fact that sin is sin. For the moment, he had been able to convince them to stop judging others, and to take an honest look at their sin nature. He would be in violation of the Law of Moses if he recommended her release, and if not, they could accuse Him of inciting murder before the Roman authorities. With a few words, Christ silenced all accusing voices and pointing fingers. Jesus did not excuse this woman's adultery by holding it against the Law of God. Rather, He challenged her to confess her wrongdoing and to not commit it again. He also atoned for her sins through His atoning death. Adultery resulted in stoning, but all sins and trespasses resulted in death. It does not matter whether the sins are committed by the body or sins committed by prideful hearts. In contrast, God's gift is eternal life, which is accessed through the Lord Jesus Christ. His sacrifice rendered the punishment that we deserved for our sin.
Isaiah 43:25
I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Luke 17:3
If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him, and if he repent, forgive him.
Matthew 6:14
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
