1 John 2:1
1 John 2:1
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.
John’s words to “My little children” convey a sense of pastoral care and concern, as he advises believers to avoid sin but reminds them of the advocacy of Jesus Christ. This verse highlights the dual roles of instruction and assurance, encouraging believers to strive for righteousness while acknowledging human weakness. John reassures his readers that if they sin, they have an advocate with the Father—Jesus, who is both righteous and compassionate. This advocacy reflects the ongoing intercession of Christ, who stands before God on behalf of believers. This verse encourages a life of integrity, striving to resist sin while resting in the assurance of Christ’s intercession. It reminds us that, though we may stumble, we are not abandoned; Jesus continually mediates for us, offering forgiveness and restoration. This passage calls believers to pursue holiness, supported by the knowledge that Christ is always there to advocate for us, guiding us back to the path of righteousness.
