1 Samuel 7:6
1 Samuel 7:6
And they gathered together to Mizpeh, and drew water, and poured it out before the Lord, and fasted on that day.
Fasting is a powerful act of spiritual renewal, where believers gather in unity to humble themselves before the Lord. The people of Mizpeh poured water out before the Lord and fasted as a sign of their repentance and devotion. It’s a communal act that not only reflects individual humility but also collective repentance. Fasting, in this context, is a way of aligning hearts with God, recognizing the need for His intervention and forgiveness. This act of fasting was a declaration of their dependence on God and a plea for His mercy. Repentance, when coupled with fasting, is an outward sign of an inward change, a way of expressing sorrow for sin and seeking restoration. It’s also a sign of devotion, as the people showed their willingness to sacrifice and wait upon the Lord for guidance. Fasting brings clarity and helps believers grow closer to God, seeking His will above all else. Whether done individually or in community, fasting draws the heart nearer to God, fostering an environment for spiritual transformation.

And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing.
Luke 4:1
And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing.
Isaiah 58:3
Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find pleasure, and exact all your labours.
