Daniel 9:3
Daniel 9:3
And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes.
Daniel 9:3 illustrates how Daniel sought the Lord with fasting, prayer, and supplication as he repented for the sins of Israel. Daniel’s act of fasting was an expression of his dedication to God and his sorrow over the sins of his people. Through fasting, Daniel humbled himself before God, seeking His forgiveness and intervention. This verse teaches us that fasting is an important practice for repentance and spiritual renewal. It shows us that when we sin or fall short, fasting can be an act of humility, asking for God’s mercy and restoration. In times of repentance, fasting can help align our hearts with God’s will, deepening our dependence on Him and His grace. Just as Daniel sought God’s forgiveness, we are called to approach Him with a humble and contrite heart, seeking His restoration and renewal through fasting, prayer, and supplication.
Isaiah 58:6
Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke.
Nehemiah 1:4
And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.
Ezra 8:23
So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us.
Matthew 6:17
But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face.
