Hebrews 13:17
Hebrews 13:17
Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
The authorities that exist have been established by God speaks to the divine origin of all earthly authority. This verse affirms that all authority, whether in government, the church, or other institutions, is ultimately established by God. Even when earthly rulers are unjust or flawed, God remains sovereign over them, using them to fulfill His greater purposes. For believers, this verse is a reminder to honor and respect those in authority, recognizing that they are placed in power by God’s will. However, this does not mean blind obedience to corrupt or unjust authority, but rather a recognition that God is ultimately in control. This verse challenges Christians to submit to earthly authorities in accordance with God’s will, while also standing firm in God’s higher authority when necessary. It encourages believers to trust in God’s sovereignty, knowing that He is working through all forms of authority to bring about His kingdom. Christians are called to live in peace, honor, and submission to authorities while always prioritizing God’s law above all.

Mark 12:17
