Isaiah 5:11
Isaiah 5:11
Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after their drinks, who stay up late at night till they are inflamed.
The Bible warns against those who “rise early in the morning to run after their drinks” and those who “stay up late at night till they are inflamed.” This vivid imagery highlights the excessive pursuit of alcohol, showing how it can consume a person’s thoughts and time. The pursuit of wine or strong drink becomes an obsession, leading to unhealthy patterns of behavior. This is a powerful illustration of how addiction or overindulgence can take control of a person’s life, leaving them spiritually bankrupt. The Bible calls us to avoid being enslaved by our appetites or desires and to seek fulfillment in the things that honor God. It calls us to be vigilant over our hearts and minds, so that we are not distracted by the empty promises of the world. Instead, we are to be filled with the Spirit, allowing God's peace and wisdom to guide our lives.
1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Isaiah 5:22
Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks.
Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging, and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Proverbs 31:4
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, to drink wine, nor for rulers to crave beer.
