James 3:17 provides a description of heavenly wisdom: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” Here, James contrasts the wisdom of the world with the wisdom that comes from God. The wisdom from above is pure, meaning it is untainted by selfish motives or hidden agendas. It is peaceable, meaning it fosters harmony and avoids conflict whenever possible. Wisdom from God is gentle and approachable, willing to listen and to act with grace. It is “easy to be intreated,” meaning it is receptive and willing to consider different perspectives. Additionally, this wisdom is full of mercy—showing compassion and forgiveness to others, and producing good fruits in the form of righteous actions and attitudes. God’s wisdom does not show favoritism, nor does it operate with hypocrisy, but rather it treats all people equally and with integrity. When we walk in God’s wisdom, we reflect His character and can better serve others in love and truth.
