Jeremiah 17:9
Jeremiah 17:9
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
The heart, according to this verse, is deceitful and beyond cure. This speaks to the innate sinfulness of humanity and the tendency for our hearts to lead us astray. We often deceive ourselves into thinking we are doing right, only to realize that our hearts were influenced by selfish desires or deceitful motivations. This verse is a sobering reminder that we cannot trust our own hearts without the guidance of God’s truth. In our fallen state, our hearts are inclined to follow paths that lead to destruction, but through the transformative power of the Holy Spirit, we are called to align our hearts with God's will. This passage invites us to examine our motives and to seek God’s guidance in all things. By surrendering our hearts to God, we allow Him to purify us and lead us toward truth.
