Matthew 12:34
Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
The words we speak are a direct reflection of the abundance within our hearts. This verse highlights the crucial truth that our speech is not random or accidental; it flows from the condition of our hearts. If our hearts are filled with love, peace, and joy, our words will naturally reflect those qualities. Conversely, if our hearts are filled with bitterness, anger, or fear, those emotions will spill over into our speech. This verse calls us to examine our hearts and to be intentional about what we allow to fill them. When we meditate on God’s word, His love, and His truth, our hearts become more aligned with His purposes. As a result, our words will also be a reflection of His goodness. It’s important to note that this principle works both ways: as we speak positive, life-giving words, we also nurture our hearts. The act of speaking truth, kindness, and encouragement can, in turn, shape our inner lives. The abundance of the heart shapes the quality of the speech, and in turn, the speech shapes the heart. This mutual relationship highlights the power and responsibility we have in choosing both what we fill our hearts with and what we speak out loud.
Ephesians 4:15
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:.
Proverbs 10:32
The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.
Colossians 4:6
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Proverbs 15:2
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
