Matthew 17:21
Matthew 17:21
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
Matthew 17:21 speaks of a specific kind of spiritual breakthrough that requires both prayer and fasting. Jesus makes it clear that some spiritual challenges cannot be overcome unless we actively engage in both practices. Fasting, in combination with prayer, helps to increase our faith and spiritual power. It serves as a reminder that certain situations or strongholds in life require a deeper level of spiritual commitment, one that involves denying ourselves and seeking God with greater intensity. Fasting humbles our hearts and strengthens our reliance on God, allowing us to tap into His power and wisdom. This verse teaches us that when we face situations that seem beyond our ability, prayer and fasting are essential tools for overcoming obstacles and engaging with God’s divine authority. In fasting, we are empowered to face life’s challenges with greater faith and reliance on God’s strength.
Acts 10:30
And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing.
Psalm 35:13
But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth: I humbled my soul with fasting; and my prayer returned into mine own bosom.
Nehemiah 1:4
And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven.
Judges 20:26
Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and sat there before the Lord, and fasted that day until even.
