Matthew 26:27
Matthew 26:27
Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink from it, all of you.
In this moment, Jesus institutes what would become a central practice for believers: the act of communion. The cup He offers is symbolic of His blood, which would soon be shed for the forgiveness of sins. By saying, "Drink from it, all of you," He invites everyone to partake in the salvation He offers. This act of drinking from the cup signifies the believers' participation in His sacrifice. The communion table is not just for a select few, but for all who are willing to accept His gift of grace. The act of drinking from the cup reminds us that salvation is freely offered to all and that, through the blood of Christ, we are reconciled to God. Jesus gives thanks before distributing the cup, showing His gratitude for the fulfillment of God's plan through His sacrificial death. This verse emphasizes the communal aspect of the Christian faith—believers, united by faith, come together to partake of the sacrifice Christ made for them, proclaiming His death until He returns.
John 6:55
For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
1 Corinthians 11:23
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread.
1 Corinthians 10:16
Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ.
John 6:57
Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
