Matthew 3:13
Matthew 3:13
Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
In Matthew 3:13, we read that Jesus came from Galilee to be baptized by John. This act of Jesus’ submission to baptism is crucial, for it reveals His obedience to the Father’s plan. Jesus did not need to be baptized for forgiveness, as He was sinless, but He chose to identify with mankind’s need for redemption. This event marked the start of Jesus’ earthly ministry and fulfilled the prophecy of the coming Messiah. Baptism, in this sense, is not about the forgiveness of sins for Jesus but an act of humility and obedience. Through His example, Jesus showed that baptism is an important step in fulfilling God’s purposes in our lives. It is an outward expression of an inward commitment to God’s will. The act of baptism symbolizes our submission to God and our identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Matthew 3:16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him.
Acts 10:47
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
1 Peter 3:21
The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
