Matthew 6:5
Matthew 6:5
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men.
Jesus teaches us that prayer is not for show or to gain the approval of others, but should come from a sincere heart. The hypocrites love to pray where others can see them, but true prayer is about our personal relationship with God. In this verse, Jesus warns against seeking recognition through prayer, emphasizing that sincerity is far more important than outward appearances. Prayer is an intimate conversation with God, and it should reflect our desire to connect with Him, not to impress others. Humility is key in prayer; it is about acknowledging our dependence on God and seeking His guidance, not seeking to be seen by men. True prayer comes from a heart of faith and devotion, not from a desire for praise or approval. When we pray in humility and sincerity, we align our hearts with God’s will and invite His presence into our lives. This verse calls us to examine our motives in prayer and to approach God with authenticity and humility.
