Matthew 9:36
Matthew 9:36
But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.
When Jesus saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion because they were like sheep without a shepherd. This verse reveals the tender heart of Jesus—His deep empathy for the lost and hurting. The people were weary and scattered, without guidance or care, and Jesus, seeing their condition, was filled with compassion. This compassion moved Him to action, as He knew the need for spiritual leadership and care. His heart went out to them, and He was determined to address their needs. As followers of Christ, we are called to mirror this compassion. It is easy to become detached from the struggles of others, but Jesus' example shows us that true love and care for others begin with seeing their pain and responding with empathy. The calling of a shepherd is to lead, protect, and nurture those in need, and Christ is the ultimate Shepherd who shows us the heart of God for humanity. His compassion invites us to reflect on how we, too, can care for those who are spiritually lost and hurting.
