Proverbs 11:13
Proverbs 11:13
A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
Trust is a foundational element of any strong relationship, and nothing erodes trust faster than betrayal of confidence. To hold someone’s trust is a sacred responsibility, a testament to the bond built through honesty and integrity. When we honor the trust placed in us by keeping confidences, we reflect God’s own faithfulness, showing others that they are safe with us. In contrast, gossip is a destructive force that diminishes trust and hurts relationships. Choosing to be trustworthy in all circumstances, even when no one is watching, aligns our actions with the integrity that God desires from us. It also builds a reputation of reliability and honor, qualities that are both rare and valuable in today’s world. Being a keeper of secrets demonstrates respect for others' vulnerabilities and shows a commitment to relationship over self-interest. Trustworthiness strengthens community, fosters unity, and brings glory to God, as we choose to reflect His character through our actions. This choice to protect and preserve trust serves as a testimony of God's love and faithfulness in our lives.
Proverbs 18:8

He who goes about as a slanderer reveals secrets; therefore, do not associate with him.

If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart.
Exodus 23:1
Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.
