Proverbs 18:12
Proverbs 18:12
Before a downfall the heart is haughty, but humility comes before honor.
This verse underscores that humility precedes honor. Before a person can be honored, their heart must be humbled. A haughty spirit, one that is proud and self-exalting, leads to a downfall. But humility is the key to promotion, whether in our relationships with others or in God’s Kingdom. Humility prepares us for honor by teaching us to serve others, to trust in God’s timing, and to recognize that all good things come from Him. When we humble ourselves, we position ourselves for God’s blessing, whether in the form of honor, success, or spiritual growth. This verse serves as a reminder that honor is not something we can force or earn through arrogance, prideful means; it is given to those who remain humble and trusting in God’s plan. Humility prepares us to receive the blessings God has in store for us, and it is through humility that we reflect His character to the world.
Proverbs 11:2
When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
1 Peter 2:6
Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
1 Corinthians 1:28
God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are.
Psalms 149:4
For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.
