Proverbs 18:13
Proverbs 18:13
He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
Jumping to conclusions or answering matters before understanding them is a sign of foolishness. This verse warns against rashness and emphasizes the need for patience and wisdom in communication. When we speak without fully hearing or understanding the situation, we risk making assumptions that can lead to misunderstandings and unnecessary conflict. The danger here is not just in the words we say, but in the attitude that drives them. A hasty response often comes from pride, a desire to be heard, or a lack of empathy. The wise person, on the other hand, takes the time to listen, understand, and then speak thoughtfully. This approach fosters mutual respect and wisdom, creating space for constructive dialogue rather than fueling discord. It is an encouragement to pause, reflect, and listen carefully before offering our opinions or solutions. Practically, this means we should be careful not to interrupt others, to give them the space to speak, and to seek to understand their perspective fully before forming our response. This approach not only prevents folly but also fosters healthy relationships built on trust and understanding.
Colossians 4:6
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Proverbs 10:19
In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.
Ecclesiastes 10:12
The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious, but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.
Ephesians 4:15
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:.
