Proverbs 18:21
Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
The tongue holds incredible power—power to build up or tear down, to bless or curse, to give life or bring death. This verse reminds us that our words are not neutral; they carry weight. The power of life and death in the tongue speaks to the profound impact that speech can have on individuals and communities. The words we speak can encourage, heal, and uplift, or they can wound, discourage, and destroy. This dual nature of the tongue emphasizes the importance of speaking with care and intentionality. When we love the power of the tongue, meaning we are mindful of how we speak, we will reap the fruits of that care—fruits of peace, joy, and life. Conversely, if we use our words recklessly or destructively, we will also experience the negative consequences of our speech. It’s important to realize that our words not only affect others, but they also have an impact on our own hearts and lives. The way we speak shapes our relationships, our environment, and even our own emotional state. Therefore, we are called to use the power of the tongue for good, to speak life into situations, to encourage those around us, and to foster peace. The fruit of such speech is rich and fulfilling, bringing joy and health to the soul.
Proverbs 15:2
The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.
Psalms 19:14
Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
Colossians 4:6
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
