Proverbs 18:8
Proverbs 18:8
The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.
Gossip, though it may seem harmless, has a profound impact on those who hear it and even more on those who spread it. Like a poison, it seeps into the hearts of those involved, creating mistrust, misunderstanding, and hurt. While the words of gossip may feel engaging or insightful, they often come at the expense of someone else's reputation. As believers, we are called to use our words for edification, to build up rather than tear down. Avoiding gossip means choosing to speak life and love into others, even when they are not present. It requires restraint and integrity, reflecting God’s call for us to treat others with respect and kindness. By rejecting gossip, we protect not only our own hearts but also foster a culture of honesty, respect, and support. Speaking words of encouragement rather than idle or harmful words allows us to demonstrate God’s love, creating a safe and trusting environment for everyone involved. Our words hold power, and choosing to use them wisely is an act of obedience and love.
Proverbs 11:13
A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
Proverbs 26:20
Without wood a fire goes out; without a gossip a quarrel dies down.
Proverbs 17:9
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
Exodus 23:1
Do not spread false reports. Do not help a guilty person by being a malicious witness.
