Proverbs 30:17
Proverbs 30:17
The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
Dishonoring parents is one of the most serious offenses in God’s eyes. This verse warns against mocking or scorning one’s father or mother, showing that such disrespect has severe consequences. The imagery of ravens pecking out the eyes of the one who mocks their parents is a vivid depiction of the judgment that comes upon those who dishonor their parents. This verse calls us to recognize the sacredness of the family unit and to treat parents with the honor and respect they deserve. It reminds us that God takes seriously His commandment to honor our father and mother, and those who violate this command face divine consequences. Reverence for parents is not just a matter of tradition but is a reflection of our reverence for God’s commandments and the structure He has established for families.
