Proverbs 31:4
Proverbs 31:4
It is not for kings, O Lemuel, to drink wine, nor for rulers to crave beer.
The Bible offers clear instructions and warnings about the dangers of indulgence in wine and strong drink, particularly for those in positions of authority. In Proverbs, King Lemuel is cautioned not to drink wine or crave beer, reminding us that leaders must maintain clarity of mind, self-control, and sound judgment in order to govern wisely. The Bible stresses that leaders who engage in such excess risk the erosion of their wisdom and integrity, which is detrimental not only to their personal lives but to those they lead. The lesson here is not just about avoiding physical drunkenness, but about maintaining spiritual clarity. We are reminded that indulgence in anything, whether food, drink, or worldly pursuits, can lead to distraction from our higher calling and responsibilities. In fact, excess can cloud the mind and dull one’s ability to make wise decisions. Rulers and all believers are called to live disciplined lives, rooted in righteousness, as this is the true path to peace and prosperity for both individuals and communities.
Romans 13:13
Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Proverbs 23:20
Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh.
1 John 2:15
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Titus 2:3
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things.
