You may have heard the phrase "To everything, there is a season" long before you knew it came from Scripture. This verse is a simple yet timely reminder that God Himself created the cyclical pattern of the universe for His purpose. The moment He spoke the world into being, He set in motion a series of unchangeable, natural laws that bring life to everything. Without rain, there would be no harvest; without sorrow, we wouldn't know what joy feels like. The fullness of life comes from experiencing all that life has to offer, both ups and downs. We see Jesus express joy in the repentance of sinners, sadness in the death of a friend (John 11), anger in the misuse of the Temple (Matthew 21), and fear in facing death on the cross (Mark 14). We see Jesus walking the full spectrum of human emotions during His time on earth. Our world might give us more than our fair share of struggles, but we can find peace knowing that even Jesus walked this road with the full spectrum of emotions. Having faith in Christ and knowing that salvation has been promised to us, and it does not require us to respond exclusively with joy. There is a time to grieve, a time to be angry, and a time to fight. God will be there with us in all of those moments. Through all seasons, God is with us, guiding us. We can trust in God because He is sovereign and He is always in control.
Dear Heavenly Father, You know everything that I have been through - the ups and the downs. I surrender my will to You so I can live my life according to Your will instead of mine. Whenever I am down, I pray for wisdom and strength to overcome adversity. Whenever I'm happy, I'll never forget Your grace and blessing. God, thank You for sending Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, to earth to teach us how to live a full life. Remind me often that true happiness only comes from You, not from worldly desires. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
John 6:35
And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Proverbs 14:27
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.
Psalm 121:7
The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life.
Psalms 39:4
LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.
