The author of this verse, Paul, seems to understand the thoughts of these self-appointed "judges," who practice hypocrisy by judging others. He informs them, as well as us all, that they are not the ones with the gavel. You are the one being judged. As a result, we are all guilty. Why is this the case? It is clear from Paul's words, "You do the same." 
A finger of critical judgment aimed at another is accompanied by three accusatory fingers pointing at our own sinful hearts. Paul's catalog of corruption presented in this valuable chapter is nothing more than a mirror reflecting our own hearts. As such, it demonstrates our equal and desperate need for grace upon grace. 
The sin of self-righteous superiority of a believer is equally or even more offensive to our heavenly Father. It is a fact that all of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory and perfection of God. Instead of judging others' sins with supercilious judgment, we should be compassionate toward those who are blind to the glorious gospel of grace and lost in their sin.

Dear Heavenly Father, forgive me for passing judgment on others and pointing a finger of accusation at the sins of other people, while hiding behind my own self-righteous pride and smugness. I am thankful that Christ died for me and that I am saved by faith in Him. Thank You for covering me with His righteousness. May I have a compassionate heart towards the lost, and may I touch the lives of the lost with love instead of criticism.
