As Christmas Eve draws to a close on Day 5 of our journey, let's embrace the serene and holy atmosphere of this night. Reflect on the profound peace and hope that Christmas Eve represents and how it sets the stage for the celebration of Jesus’s birth.
In Luke 2, we learn about the birth of Jesus and how His birth was announced to the world. It was in the fields of Bethlehem, in the darkness of night, where the angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to some unexpecting shepherds. The shepherds were terrified by the sudden appearance of a supernatural figure and the radiance of the Lord's glory surrounding them. "Fear not," the angel of the Lord said to them, "I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!" 
The good news wasn't announced on a bright morning or sunny afternoon but rather on a dark night. In fact, the nations of the earth were in a state of weariness and despair at the time of our Lord's birth. Our Lord doesn't come to earth to enjoy its prosperity but to save and give us hope in times of despair. It's also fascinating to learn that God chooses common shepherds, rather than kings, scholars, or royal people, to announce His precious Son's birth to the world. Many times, society's least valued members are the ones through whom God speaks.
During the holiday season, it is easy to get caught up in everything that is going on and forget what and why we celebrate. Christmas is the day we celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, without whom we would still be condemned to our sins and live in hopelessness. The Lord's grace is not just for the rich or those who have everything together. The angel of the Lord Himself has told us the news of Jesus is for "all people." 
This Christmas season, be looking for opportunities to share Jesus with others. All people can be saved by Jesus!

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your precious one and only Son to this world and saving us from our sins. Despite the dark times we are experiencing right now, there is always hope in You. Let Your light shine wherever there is darkness, and comfort the weary hearts, Lord. As we celebrate Your birth, remind us of your faithfulness, kindness, goodness, and Your sacrifice on the Cross. Thank You that in Christ, I have nothing to fear and everything for which to be thankful.
