There are many laws in the Bible, but there is one law that sums up and surpasses them all: the law of Christ. To love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, AND to love our neighbors as much as we love ourselves (Luke 10:27). As today's verse says, we fulfill this law by helping carry the burdens of others. We promote independence and self-sufficiency in today's world. We read stories about "self-made" businessmen. We appreciate people who can put everything together without asking for help. We strive to be “better” than others around us. Christ, however, has a different view of how we should interact with one another. Taking care of one another and being involved in one another's lives is something very important to the Lord, as well as to us as members of His body. Communities are not just built for festivals and celebrations but also for times of need. Do you care enough about your brothers and sisters to find out what burdens they carry? By showing kindness, compassion, and generosity, we help ease their burdens. How? It can be as simple as taking time to ask, listen, and pray for them. When we do that, not only do we make someone’s burden lighter, but we are also being lifted up.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for teaching me how to love others. Please give me eyes to see, a heart willing to serve, and hands ready to help those around me. In a world where we can be anything, help me to be kind. I ask that You will give me strength to help bear the burdens of others and lift them up. May You bring peace and hope to their hearts. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
1 John 1:3
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
Acts 2:42
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Ephesians 4:32
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
