Inspiration
The apostle Paul wrote his letter to the Corinthian believers who were also waiting for redemption and freedom from brutal Roman rule. Having been beaten multiple times, thrown in prison, and almost killed by the authorities and the elements of nature, for many, Paul’s life was not one of God’s blessings. Paul knew, however, that Jesus made him strong through his weakness. The Apostle Paul reminds us of the truth that God works in the lives of believers through temptations, persecutions, and sufferings; it is in our weaknesses that we find strength.
Paul didn't say to just live with hardships and not complain about them, but "take pleasure" in them "for Christ's sake." It is for Christ's sake that we can be glad in our difficulties and rejoice in our distresses because of what He has done and will do for us. It is for Christ's sake that we can delight in our weaknesses because Jesus's power works best in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). The Lord Jesus Christ, being both Man and God, knows exactly what it feels to struggle, strive, and be tempted. However, He assures us that His grace is sufficient. He will not fail you or abandon you (Deuteronomy 31:6). He will not give you more than you can bear (1 Corinthians 10:13).
It's okay to feel distressed or weak sometimes. Take pleasure in it, knowing that through them, God is working in your life. He will make you stronger and stronger.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, I often complain about all the difficulties I've been through and ask You to take them away from me. However, I didn't realize it was You working in my life. It has been a difficult time for me, but I know that I can find everything I need in You. Your love and grace make all the suffering worthwhile. Help me to rely on You and trust that You will give me the strength to endure the temptations and hardships. May I receive Your wisdom in all the challenges that I face today and delight in them.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
