According to Luke, Jesus' baptism is not described in detail; He simply notes that it took place. In Luke 3:22, the only details Luke provides are those that confirm John the Baptist's belief that Jesus was the Promised One sent by God. Finally, after all the people had been baptized, Jesus came to the banks of the Jordan to be baptized by John, the last prophet and priest of Israel and forerunner of the Messiah.
As God's High Priest, Jesus had to fulfill all the righteous requirements of the Law. Following His baptism in Jordan, we read that the Lord Jesus prayed to His Heavenly Father, as He was accustomed to doing. The relationship between Christ and the Father was one of constant and continuous communion. During His prayer, the heavens opened, and the Holy Spirit descended in bodily form, like a dove, on Him. 
During His life on earth as the sinless Son of Man, prayer served as an open door of fellowship between God the Father and God the Son. It is an incredible privilege that has been granted to all of God's blood-bought children to pray. Let us strive to live our lives continuously in communion with the Father, as He did.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me the gift of baptism. It is a blessing to be able to share in this same experience as your Son and my Savior did so many years ago. Thank You for making this more than a mere human event but one in which Your Spirit moves and in which I can feel Your affection and approval. Let me learn how to pray the way Christ did. Let me live a life of communion with You constantly and continuously.
