Inspiration
It is believed that, based on the wisdom of the world, humans have a responsibility to identify what they want from life and to devise a plan to achieve it at any cost. The phenomenon has become so ingrained in our culture that even Christians are unlikely to perceive it as abnormal. As a consequence of this attitude, we tend to place a great deal of emphasis on ourselves.
It is often our own inner lust for personal pleasures, possessions, power, and a pharisaical hypocrisy that is at the root of such conflicts. It is a difficult truth to accept. Unfortunately, Christians can sometimes be worse offenders than ungodly, pagan majorities in terms of fights, accusations, criticisms, envy, and pride. According to James, conflict arises from covetous lusts, an urge for pleasure and amusement, and self-centered desires.
However, praise be to God; when we recognize that our desire for good in the spirit is opposed by our desire for evil in the flesh, our response is available. The only one who can separate us from the suffocating power of sin and death is Jesus Christ. Not only did He pay the penalty for our sins, but He also broke the power of sin.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, through Christ, I have sufficient grace and power to overcome the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. My mind reels when I think of all that You have created and how You hold this universe together with Your Word. Your invitation humbles me. You have given me the grace to overcome all my needs because Christ alone is my sufficiency.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
