It’s not easy to love people. To show one another love despite each other’s sinful tendencies is a very difficult thing to do. This is why it was so monumentally groundbreaking when Jesus said to not only love those who love you but also to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. If it’s already difficult to love those who love you back, how hard must it be to love those who hate you? Regardless, the Bible calls us to forbear one another in love. This means that we should humble ourselves and conduct ourselves in a way that shows love, kindness, and godliness to one another, even when they don’t show it back to us. The thing about God’s commands is that they are not contingent on someone else’s actions. The commands remain the same regardless of what the other person does to you. Thus, we should lift one another up and forbear one another in love, being kind and loving to each other despite the circumstances. Next time you see a brother or sister in Christ that you haven’t shown love to, make it your mission to show them love. Lift them up in kindness and grace, and you will see the power of love for one another.
Dear Heavenly Father, help me to love others. Even when those around me are difficult to love, help me to love them the way that You love them. Help me to see them the way that You see them, not as sinful people but as people created in Your image. Help me to show love to them and to forbear them in love. Give me the strength to be kind and caring when I don't feel like it, and give me the courage to love in the face of hatred. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
1 Corinthians 13:6
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
1 John 4:20
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
Ephesians 5:33
Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
