Inspiration
In Hebrews, the writer refers to God's communication with mankind as the beginning of the book. When we start to comprehend the full force of the truth that this simple sentence contains, we will be stupefied at the meaning it conveys. The first and second verses point out that God has spoken through prophets in the past and that he is now speaking through Jesus Christ.
There was no ambiguity in God's message. By means of the prophets of Israel, He conveyed a single, unified message of hope. Humanity was given a single, integrated, supernaturally inspired message of hope through God's ancient people, Israel, as great world kingdoms rose to power and declined into obscurity. Many times and in many ways, God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets in the past.
It is certain that once we grasp the enormity of the truth contained in this sentence, we will crave to learn more. Following the endearing words of the prophets and then the words of Jesus Himself in the Scriptures, wouldn't it make sense for us to hunger for and study the Word so that we may show ourselves approved for our own good and for His glory?
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, You amaze me with Who You are, and I am humbled that You would love me and rescue me from the penalty of my sin. My thankfulness goes out to You for conveying this truth to me in the form of Your single, integrated, supernaturally inspired message. It is my prayer that I study to be approved and not to be ashamed before Your throne of grace.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
