Inspiration
A key feature of this verse is the humility and obedience displayed by Mary and Joseph. They were willing to travel to Bethlehem, even though it meant hardship and inconvenience because they were obedient to the commands of the Roman government and to the will of God. This verse serves as an inspiration for us to be obedient to the will of God, even when it may not align with our own plans or preferences.
If God was able to orchestrate the landscape of Israel, move the heart of Caesar Augustus, and choose the right young couple to raise His beloved Son, is He not able to act in our own lives? If the Holy Spirit was able to overshadow the womb of a virgin and cause her to conceive the Holy One of God to fulfill ancient prophecies, is He not able to guide and direct the lives of all His children who have been redeemed by His blood?
In reading the story, let us be amazed and awed at how God works with precision and timing through varying political climates, economic landscapes, and individual and group lives to accomplish His redemption plan and to bring glory to His name in the end.
Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your perfect timing and precision in all things. Thank You for Your extraordinary plan of redemption and intertwining events that led to the birth of the Lord Jesus in Bethlehem. Thanks for fulfilling the words of the prophets of old to bring greater glory to You and to ensure the salvation of all who trust in Christ.
In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
