Regardless of race, socioeconomic status or age, we all experience suffering at some point in our lives. Suffering can come from physical pain, distress, feelings of rejection and depression. Whatever the cause, suffering is never pleasant or enjoyable. There is a misconception that has been widespread in Christianity, one that has caused many to doubt the promises of God and even backslid, that your life journey as a believer will be one full of bliss and blessings. It is not entirely correct according to Scripture. Yes, it is true that the suffering of all creation as a result of the curse has been dealt with by the redemptive plan of God through the death of Jesus. But there are times in our lives when God uses hardship and circumstances that can give us pain to grow certain spiritual virtues in us and to teach us to be better in our walk with Him. He uses suffering as a tool to test our trust and faith in Him, or to try our love for Him whether it is genuine as we confess. Also instances will arise when we suffer for the sake of the gospel of Jesus, but the Bible tells us that this suffering is just for a little time. No matter what pain, persecution, or affliction we may face, we should always remember that God is with us and that we will emerge better, stronger, and victorious.
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for caring for my needs, bearing my burdens and sustaining me through life. I am grateful to You because You have kept Your promise to never leave nor forsake me. Thank You for being a dependable Father. Please grant me sufficient grace to withstand times of suffering. Let me not fail when I am tried by You. Though I am weak, You are strong. I pray for Your help to stand strong in the face of adversity. Give me the courage to reject the suggestion of the devil to compromise, and help me to trust in Your ever-abiding presence. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
Psalms 55:22
Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.
Job 23:10
But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.
Proverbs 24:10
If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.
Romans 8:18
For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
