One of the many things people worry about is their weight. To achieve the desired weight, we commit ourselves to healthy lifestyle practices to ensure longevity. We will have to give up certain unhealthy habits, deny our appetites for pleasure so that we can be physically and mentally fit.
In modern Christianity, many have been made to believe that once they accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, there is an automatic guarantee of perpetual blessings and a life journey of ease. This is partly true, but being a disciple of Jesus is not bread and butter. 
One will need to be committed and determined to deny oneself and carry the cross. Self-denial includes letting go of selfish attitudes and habits and letting go of everything that will prevent us from doing the will of the Lord. If indeed we want God to be Lord over our lives, then we must be willing to lay aside our pride and desires just for Him to have His way. The cross is a symbol of death, suffering, pain or even a heavy burden: to take up one’s cross daily means to die to self and sin everyday, saying No to sin and yes to God in all our ways, doing all to please Him by turning away from our will. In the same way Jesus sacrificed himself and was crucified bearing our sins on the cross, we must also be willing to sacrifice our desires and crucify our old way of living on a daily basis.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege to follow You. Thank You for Your Word that teaches me Your ways so that I can walk in them and be a diligent disciple. Lord Jesus, I yield myself to Your Spirit to be sanctified continually. Grant me the grace to detach from the sinful ways of the old life, and help me say No to worldly desires. Give me the strength to resist temptation. Every plan of the devil to keep me bound by my previous way of life is thwarted and destroyed. Help me please You all my life and let my life be an expression of Yours as a true disciple.
