In our society today, there seems to be a degeneration in acceptable behavior and a careless way of living. Every form of morality, ethics and good values has been trashed. Crime, violence, bullying, and immorality have surged in recent years. There is no fear of authority in the world, which has led to all of these activities that have made the world an unpleasant place. The evil in our world today is because people have kicked against the maintenance of law and order. Rules are broken and everything is in disarray. However, in communities or societies where the majority of persons are law abiding and have the utmost regard for constituted authorities, they will experience progress, prosperity and peace. God is the greatest authority on earth because He made it and controls the affairs of men (Psalms 24:1, Daniel 2:20). He gave laws and ordinances to the people of Israel with promises of blessings only if they would obey. Obedience to His laws and submission to His ordinances are ways by which we communicate our worship and reverence to God. Fear should be born of respect and reverence for God, so that it keeps us from doing evil and helps us follow His instructions. When we obey the Lord out of reverence for Him, when we abstain from appearances of evil and walk righteously, He rewards us by releasing blessings upon us and causing us to prosper and be fruitful in all our endeavors. All that God requires of us is to "Fear the Lord and do His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man" (Ecclesiastes 12:13).
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for choosing me to be a partaker of the good things being prepared in Christ. Please, my Father and my God, help me to consciously adhere to Your commandments. Let me not take lightly even the smallest detail of Your instructions. Teach me to know Your ways so that I might walk in them. I seek forgiveness for walking in disobedience. I ask that You show me mercy and pardon my wrongs. I am thankful for the assurance of Your blessings as I walk in reverence to You and Your ways. In Jesus's name I pray. Amen.
